More than a market

Bringing groceries back to the Hill.

For years, the Hill District lived without a neighborhood grocery store. In 2022 the City of Pittsburgh and the URA selected Salem’s to change that — and in 2023 the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called the project “an important milestone” toward ending the Hill’s long grocery drought.

Salem’s invested nearly $2 million to purchase the Centre Heldman Plaza site, because this isn’t a satellite store — it’s a commitment. Affordable produce, international groceries, halal meat and a market that hires from the neighborhood it serves.
